Hot Cocoa at Its Best

by SideTrackedVickie on October 2, 2008

If you’re like me, you love a great cup of hot chocolate now and then. This recipe is one our family has enjoyed for years, especially at Christmas time. I can’t remember where I found it, but I remember it was a beautiful Christmas book with stories and recipes.

It’s a treat I love to do for my family, and when I make it, it speaks l-o-v-e to them.

Try this hot drink at your house sometime. However, I must warn you. After enjoying this one, they may never want to go back to that instant stuff in a package!

So delicious!

So delicious!

1/4 cup water

3/4 cup milk

  1. Whisk together cocoa and sugar in a saucepan on top of the stove.
  2. Add water and stir to dissolve cocoa.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and then add milk.
  5. Heat almost to boiling while stirring frequently.
  6. Just before removing from heat, whisk int he vanilla.
  7. Pour into mugs and serve piping hot.
  8. Add your favorite toppings of whipped topping, marshmallows, a sprinkle or cinnamon, etc.

Hint: You may want to cut back on the cocoa when making this for several people.
