Over the course of many years of buying books, I’ve visited a lot of websites. While I love to go to bookstores themselves, it’s not always possible to get away. Plus, some of my favorite bookstores have been in cities far away.
I thought it would be fun to simply share with you some of the places I’ve bought books on the Internet that you may not know about. Several of these I discovered through forums with other homeschooling moms who have shared their “secrets.” Others are those I’ve found by searching such topics as “used books” and “book auctions” on Google.
Maybe after reading this post, you’ll find a new favorite bookstore.
Children’s Book Market
http://www.childrensbookmarket.com/Auction/auction.asp
Here you will find some wonderful treasures! You can bid on auctions, purchase books immediately, and even sell your used books.
It has been quite a while since I spent much time on their site because I now have plenty of books to use with my children. They are a great group of people who run this site. Mr. Lewis and several of his grandchildren used to be very active in managing this site.
If you find some treasures here, you’ll be very pleased with your purchases. And if you do purchase from Children’s Book Market, be sure and tell Merwin I sent you!
Valerie’s Living Books
http://www.valerieslivingbooks.com/
Valerie Jacobsen is a guru when it comes to “living books.” She used to maintain a website where you could go to find out about wonderful books, titles in different series, and why they were so great.
On her book selling website, you will find great treasures at terrific prices. She goes to many library sales, and has even taught her children how to spot great books. She very fair in her descriptions and her shipping prices are very reasonable.
I hope you enjoy your time on her website.
Books of Yesterday
One other online used bookstore I want to share with you is Jan Wright’s store. She’s been selling books online for quite some time and has a great selection of gently used books, too. She concentrates on getting and listing books from several different homeschooling curriculum lists so if you’re looking for a particular out-of-print book by some of the programs like SonLight, there’s a good chance you’ll find it here.
